Illness and Emergencies

We take care of most injuries and illnesses during our regular office hours. Typical emergencies might include:

  • Snake bites
  • Seizures
  • Not eating
  • Bite wounds
  • Not feeling well
  • Ear infections
  • Limping
  • Coughing
  • Broken bones
  • Trauma and injuries
  • Abscesses
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Hit by car
  • Skin rashes or infections
  • Weakness
  • Poisoning
  • Painful eyes
  • Penetrating wounds

Certainly this list is not all inclusive! If you suspect your pet is ill or has a medical concern,  we encourage you to have the doctor’s  at Oconee Veterinary Hospital check your pet out instead of waiting it out to see if it will get better.  Waiting can cost your pet valuable time to diagnose and potentially correct whatever medical issue it is experiencing.   If you are concerned with a medical condition please call us and we can schedule an appointment usually very quickly.  Please understand that our staff is not able to suggest or make a diagnosis over the phone; it is really important that the doctor’s evaluate your pet to be sure of the correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

If you are experiencing an emergency after our normal office hours, we ask you to call UGA College of Veterinary Medicine 706-542-3221. They are very well staffed after hours.
